Verdigris does something no paint finish can quite fake: it looks like weather has already had its say. This St Martins lantern comes in a mottled, chalky green that mimics aged copper, so it arrives looking settled rather than brand new.
The finish
The texture is deliberately uneven, patchy in places, deeper green in the recesses of the moulding, which suits the fitting's period shape far better than a flat colour would. Clear glass panels sit within the same boxy, stepped top frame as the rest of the St Martins range.
How it works
It takes one E27 bulb, not supplied, wired to Class I standard so it needs an earthed circuit. Choose dimmable bulbs if you want it on a dimmer.
Where it works best
Because the colour already reads as weathered, it is a good match for older brick, stone or render, coastal properties, or anywhere a brand new brass lantern would look slightly out of place. It works equally well beside a front door or dotted along a garden wall.
