The St James takes its shape from lantern designs that predate the Georgian period, with a domed cap, a narrow vent standing up at the front, and glazed sides that let light escape in every direction rather than just downward.
It is finished in aged brass, a warm brown gold that has been treated to look settled rather than freshly polished, so it will not look out of place against older brick or stone.
How it works
A single E27 bulb sits behind clear glass panels on all four sides, so the fitting works as much as a piece of detail on the wall by day as it does a light source after dark.
Where it works best
Its traditional lantern shape suits porches, entrances and older properties, anywhere a plain modern bracket would look out of place.
The St James belongs to Elstead's Olde England range, a group of lanterns built around historic English shapes rather than one particular building.
