A Shade That Catches Its Own Light

Look closely at the Sola pendant and the glass seems to be doing something. Elstead describes the shade as mouth blown into a dense, uneven diamond pattern, and every dimple and facet throws its own small reflection back into the room rather than one flat pool of light.

Polished Nickel

The fitting itself is steel, plated in a bright polished nickel that stays cool and mirror smooth against the warmth of the bulb glowing inside. A three point ceiling rose in the same finish holds a slim, twisted grey flex, so the eye runs straight from rose to glass with nothing bulky in between.

How It Works

A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the shade in full view rather than hidden behind a diffuser, so the bulb itself becomes part of the display. The bulb is not included, and fitting a dimmable LED lets you take the light from a bright prep glow down to something softer for evening. The flex is adjustable too, so the drop can be set anywhere from around 36cm to just over 2 metres to suit the ceiling height.

Where It Works Best

Sola is built to be hung low and singly rather than lost in a cluster, over an island, a run of dining chairs or a small kitchen table. The clear dimpled glass and polished nickel suit a contemporary or monochrome kitchen or dining room, where the fitting can stand out against plain walls or exposed brick rather than compete with a busier scheme. Hang two or three in a row, as shown, and the effect reads as a considered run of lighting rather than a repeated fixture.

What bulb does the Sola pendant take? It takes a single E27 bulb, which is not included, so fit one before use. Choose a dimmable LED if you want the option to dim the light.

Is the Sola pendant dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 LED bulb. A non dimmable bulb will not respond to a dimmer switch.
