Elstead Sheldon Single Wall Lantern - Verdigris

An old railway lantern shape, weathered green

The Sheldon takes its cue from old station platform lanterns, with a broad brim sweeping down over a caged glass shade on the end of a curved swan neck arm. It is a fitting with genuine character, the sort of shape that looks right whether the building behind it is a cottage or a converted warehouse.

A verdigris finish that already looks settled

Rather than a flat green paint, this is a verdigris finish that mimics the soft blue green patina old copper and brass develop over years outdoors, so it arrives looking gently weathered rather than brand new. It is a good match for gardens with a lot of planting or anywhere a stark black or brass fitting would feel too hard edged.

How it works

Fit it with a single E27 bulb of your choice (not included). It is IP44 rated for reliable use outdoors in rain and damp, and being Class I it needs to be wired with a proper earth connection.

Where it works best

At 39cm across, it throws a wide, generous glow that suits porches, garden doors and courtyard walls, especially where planting is already doing a lot of the work and you want the light fitting to blend in rather than compete. Shown here against a painted brick wall, the greenish tone sits happily among grasses and greenery.
