The Sheldon takes its cue from old railway platform lanterns, with a broad tilted brim sweeping over a domed glass shade at the end of a curved swan neck arm. It has the kind of honest, slightly industrial character that suits a cottage porch as easily as a converted warehouse door.

A verdigris finish that already looks settled

Rather than a flat green paint, this is a verdigris finish over solid brass, worked to mimic the soft blue green patina that copper and brass develop naturally over years outdoors. It arrives already looking gently weathered rather than brand new, and because the colour is factory applied rather than a genuine surface reaction, it should hold its tone steadily rather than needing years outside to get there. It's a useful alternative wherever a stark black or polished brass fitting would feel too hard edged against planting or aged brick.

How It Works

Fit it with a single E27 bulb of your choice, ideally an LED for lower running costs outdoors (not included). It's IP44 rated for reliable use in rain and damp, and being Class I electrically, it needs to be wired with a proper earth connection, so we recommend installation by a registered electrician.

Where It Works Best

With a 39cm projection and a 29.5cm wide shade, it throws a broad pool of light that suits porches, garden doors and courtyard walls, especially anywhere planting is already doing a lot of the work and you want the fitting to blend in rather than compete. Against a painted or brick wall, the greenish tone settles in among grasses and foliage rather than standing out from it.
