A lantern that shows its bulbs

The Old Bailey large wall lantern skips the leaded glass and diamond patterns of a classic coach lantern for something plainer: flat panes of clear glass in a squared brass case, built to show off the two bulbs inside rather than hide them.

Aged brass, built to last

Solid brass, finished in an aged tone that already looks settled rather than freshly polished, with a stepped chimney style cap on top that nods to the older lantern designs the range takes its name from.

How it works

Fit two E27 bulbs (dimmable LEDs work if your switches support it) and have the fitting wired in by a registered electrician. It carries an IP44 rating, so it copes well with coastal air and driving rain. Some simple assembly is needed once it arrives, just enough to get the glass panels seated correctly.

Where it works best

Either side of a porch, above a garage, or anywhere a larger exterior fitting won't look out of place, the scale and the twin bulbs make this one for a more prominent spot than a single door light.

It is a newer addition to Elstead Lighting's long running range of solid brass lanterns, from a company that has worked out of Alton, Hampshire since 1971.
