Elstead Miners Single Pedestal Lantern - Old Bronze

A miner's lamp, standing guard

Take the same rugged little lantern shape and set it on a pedestal base instead of a chain, and you get a fitting that feels ready to mark out a path rather than hang overhead. The frame arcs up and over the glass in a simple curved handle, with a crossed wire guard wrapped around a tapered, seeded glass shade.

It comes in Old Bronze, a dark, slightly uneven finish that plays well with the bubbled texture of the glass. Fixing holes in the base plate let it sit securely on top of a pier cap, gate post or low wall.

How it works

A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the shade, so the choice of bulb, and how warm or bright it looks, is entirely up to you. It runs to Class I, so proper earthing is needed at installation, and it can be dimmed if you fit a dimmable bulb.

Where it works best

This is a pedestal light for the approach to a house rather than the doorway itself: gateposts, driveway piers, the top of a garden wall or the corners of a terrace. With an IP44 rating it is built to stay outside through wind and rain.

An old design, still at work

Lanterns like this have been part of Elstead's range for years, taking their cue from the working lamps used long before electric light, and the company still designs from Alton in Hampshire today. Pair it with the matching wall or chain hung versions if you want the whole approach to feel of a piece.
