Elstead Matlock Single Wall Lantern - Old Bronze

The Matlock has the silhouette of a medieval torch lantern, a slender pyramid capped box with an acorn shaped finial on top, and glass panels that are deliberately seeded and uneven, giving the impression of old glass that has watched a lot of weather go by.

This is the Old Bronze finish, a deep dark tone over a cast aluminium frame that reads close to black in most light, with a hinged door on one side for changing the bulb.

How it works

It takes a single E14 lamp (not included), runs on Class I wiring so it needs an earth connection, and will dim if paired with a dimmable LED.

Where it works best

Garden gates, side passages, anywhere that could use a small pool of warm light rather than a full flood, since the seeded glass softens the beam rather than projecting it far.

Elstead has been designing period style lighting from its base in Alton, Hampshire since 1971, and lanterns like this one lean on centuries older blacksmith shapes for their proportions.
