Mansion House takes the traditional carriage lantern shape and scales it up, standing just under 49cm tall with a domed roof, a pierced brass frieze that lets a thread of light escape upward, and bevelled glass panels wrapped around two exposed lamps. It's the larger of the two Mansion House sizes, built for a doorway or gatepost that needs real presence rather than a modest porch light.

Finished in aged brass

The solid brass body is aged and lacquered rather than left bright and polished, so it reads as a warm, softly weathered gold rather than a mirror shine. That patinated tone sits comfortably against stone, brick or painted render, and it's designed to hold its look outdoors rather than tarnish unevenly.

How it works

Two E27 lamp holders sit inside the glazed case, each one visible through the clear bevelled glass, giving a fuller, more even spread of light than a single lantern of the same style. Fit dimmable E27 bulbs and the lantern will dim on a compatible switch. The pierced band around the roof and the round vents in the dome cap let a little glow escape upward as well as out through the glass panels. It's wired for permanent connection rather than plugged in, so installation by a registered electrician is recommended, and it may need some simple assembly to complete fitting.

Where it works best

At just under half a metre tall, this is a lantern for a substantial front door, a gatehouse, or either side of a wide entrance, somewhere a smaller fitting would look out of scale. It carries an IP44 rating, so it copes with genuinely exposed spots such as a porch, a driveway or a coastal facing house, standing up to rain and salt air rather than being limited to a sheltered doorway.
