Lambeth Palace is a half lantern built in the old English tradition, the kind of fitting you would expect to find flanking a grand entrance, only sized here to sit comfortably beside an ordinary front door. A pierced fretwork frieze in a crossed diamond pattern runs along the top of the canopy, and the whole glazed front hinges open on its own brass fittings, giving it the look of a genuine period lantern rather than a modern copy of one.

Aged Brass

This version is finished in aged brass, a warm, softly weathered tone rather than a bright polished shine, so it already looks settled against brick or stone rather than freshly unboxed. Clear glass panels run down both sides as well as across the hinged front, so light spreads outward as well as down onto the doorstep below.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits inside on a central lamp holder, not included, and we would recommend fitting an LED for running costs and for how cleanly it reads through the clear glass. Fit a dimmable bulb and the lantern will dim on a compatible dimmer switch, though there is no built in sensor or timer, so it switches on and off in the ordinary way. The front panel hinges fully open on its brass fittings for bulb changes, a small detail that makes maintenance easier than the period looks suggest.

Lambeth Palace is designed for outdoor use, at a front door, in a porch, or either side of a gateway, particularly on period or traditional style houses where a plain modern bulkhead light would look out of place. It is rated IP44, so it is built to cope with an exposed spot rather than needing full shelter from an overhanging porch roof.
