Elstead Klampenborg Single Chain Lantern - Black

An old fashioned lantern on a chain

Hung rather than fixed, the Klampenborg chain lantern has the look of a station platform light: a broad flat cap tipping over a rounded glass shade, swinging gently on a run of chain link. It suits a porch, a covered entrance or anywhere you want light that hangs down rather than juts out from a wall.

Black, with a soft matte finish

This version comes in black, powder coated over a 304 grade stainless steel body so the colour stays put outdoors rather than fading or chalking. The glass shade underneath has a slightly rippled, seeded texture that catches the bulb's glow and scatters it instead of leaving one hard point of light.

How it works

One E27 lamp holder sits inside the domed glass, shielded from above by the wide cap and open enough at the sides to throw light out and down. The suspension chain is adjustable, dropping anywhere from 36cm to nearly a metre, so it can sit close to a low porch roof or hang further down where there's more headroom.

Where it works best

Perfect for framing a front door, lighting a covered walkway, or marking the entrance to an outbuilding. Because it hangs rather than projects outward, it also works well in narrower porches where a wall lantern would stick out too far.
