A lantern that hangs rather than sits
Where most outdoor lanterns bolt to a wall or stand on a post, the Kinsale chain lantern hangs from a length of black chain instead, dropping from a porch canopy or exposed ceiling beam. The body is six sided and tapers to a small finial underneath, with clear bevelled glass running around every face so the light spreads outward rather than beaming in one direction.
Black polymer and polycarbonate
Kinsale is cast in a matte black polymer rather than metal, with polycarbonate standing in for glass in each of its six panels. It is a deliberate choice for a fitting that has to survive outside indefinitely, since neither material rusts, pits or clouds over the way cast iron or real glass can after a few seasons of rain and salt air.
How It Works
A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the lantern, wired to Class II electrics that need no earth connection, so installation is more straightforward than an earthed fitting. The chain itself is adjustable, letting the lantern hang anywhere between roughly 63.5cm and 73cm below its fixing point, which makes it easy to set at the right height whether your porch ceiling is high or low.
