Elstead Kerry Single Wall Lantern - Black

Classic lantern shape, built for the elements

Mounted on a single scrolled arm, the Kerry wall lantern has the pitched roof, bevelled glass panels and drop finial of an old fashioned carriage light, but nothing about it minds being left outside. Cast in black polymer with polycarbonate in place of glass, it copes with rain and salt air without the pitting or rust you would eventually get from a metal fitting in the same spot.

This one is finished in black only, with a matte, slightly textured look rather than a gloss sheen, so it reads as ironwork from a distance.

How it works

A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the lantern housing, wired to Class II standard so it does not need an earth. The bracket projects the light out and away from the wall, which helps it throw a wider pool onto the step or path below rather than just lighting the brickwork.

Where it works best

It suits a front door, side gate or garage wall, especially in coastal or exposed spots where fittings take a beating from the weather. Because the design is fairly restrained, it also sits comfortably on a plainer modern facade rather than demanding a period house to look right.
