The Hornbaek swaps the fretwork and glazing bars of a traditional lantern for a plain glass cylinder, held in place by three black rings on slender uprights. It is a cooler, more architectural take on the classic wall lantern, built for a modern facade rather than a period porch.

The lantern is made from 304 grade stainless steel and finished in black powder coat, a combination chosen for how it weathers rather than just how it looks new. The powder coat gives every surface, from the cap to the mounting arm, a consistent, slightly textured matte black that resists fading and flaking outdoors.

How It Works

One E27 lamp holder sits inside the glass cylinder, fully visible through the gaps between the three rings, so the bulb itself becomes part of the fitting's look rather than being hidden away. A short arm holds the lantern clear of the wall. This is a Class I, hardwired fitting, so we always recommend a qualified electrician carries out the installation, and it will work with a dimmer switch if fitted with a dimmable bulb.

Rated IP44, the Hornbaek suits a porch, an entrance, or a sheltered garden wall, anywhere short of direct, driving rain. Its neat, upright shape sits better on a modern render or brick facade, an outbuilding, or a garage wall than an overtly traditional coach lantern would.

The Hornbaek comes from Elstead, a British decorative lighting group and distributor whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, still led by the Lucas family today.
