A small lantern with a lot of period detail

Half the width of the two light Holborn but built from the same drawing, this single light half lantern keeps the vented crown, glazed box and turned brass feet in miniature, without losing any of the proportion that makes the larger version work.

Dark bronze

Finished in a dark bronze that reads more pewter than black, with lighter brass tones breaking through at the edges and mouldings rather than sitting under a uniform matte coat. The clear glass panels stay unobstructed, so the box frame and the bulb inside do the work rather than a tinted or textured pane.

How It Works

One E14 LED candle bulb sits behind the clear glass, exposed rather than diffused, so the light reads as a warm pinpoint rather than a soft wash across the box. The bulb is not supplied. Wired on Class I electrics, the fitting will dim if a dimmable bulb is fitted, though it will not dim on a standard non dimmable bulb.

Where It Works Best

IP44 rated, this half lantern suits a porch, a covered entrance, or either side of a garage door, somewhere with a bit of shelter rather than fully exposed to driving rain. Its compact width, just 13cm across, means it fits neatly where wall space either side of a door is tight, and it works well paired in twos flanking a doorway.

Is this lantern suitable for a fully exposed outdoor wall? It's rated IP44, which covers splashing water from any direction, so it's best suited to a porch, a covered entrance or a sheltered spot beside a garage door rather than a wall with no cover at all.

What bulb does the Holborn single half lantern take? It takes one E14 candle bulb, and we'd recommend an LED version for lower running heat behind the glass. The bulb is not included.

Is the Holborn half lantern dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E14 bulb. A standard non dimmable bulb will not dim even on a dimmer circuit.
