Helsingor borrows its shape from the tiered lanterns that line Scandinavian harboursides: a stepped, pagoda style hood sitting over a cylinder of seeded glass. In black it reads as a working light rather than a decorative one, the sort of fitting you would expect to find guarding a boat shed door as much as a front porch.

The body is 304 grade stainless steel, powder coated in a flat, deep black that sits in the metal rather than sitting on top of it, so it resists chipping and fading better than a painted finish. Around the bulb, the glass cylinder is seeded rather than smooth, breaking the light into a soft, textured glow instead of one hard point.

How It Works

A single E27 LED lamp holder sits inside the glass, with the stacked black louvres above doing double duty, keeping rain off the bulb while still letting light spread out sideways rather than trapping it inside. Fit a dimmable E27 bulb and the fitting will dim along with it. Helsingor is wired directly into the wall rather than plugged in, so it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

It suits front doors, porches and boot room entrances, and its stainless steel build makes it a sound choice for garden walls, gateposts and anywhere exposed to salt laden coastal air. Mounted in pairs either side of a door, or spaced along a garden wall, the tiered hood throws light down and out rather than glaring straight ahead.
