A single star against black

This small Etoile pendant takes the same idea as its larger sibling and pares it right down. A slim steel rod drops from the ceiling, breaks at a small gold leaf star, then continues into a tapered cone shade. With the whole fitting finished in matte black, that single star is the one thing the eye has to land on.

Finish

Rose, rod and shade are all coated in a flat matte black with no shine to catch. Inside, the cone opens onto a painted gold interior, which warms the light as it spills down and out. The star itself is finished separately in gold leaf, its faceted points standing apart from the black around it.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits inside the cone, aimed to cast light downward onto a surface rather than out across the room. The bulb isn't supplied, so any E27 lamp in a warm white finish will fit. Flex can be trimmed at the point of fitting, giving a drop anywhere between 57.2cm and 151.1cm depending on ceiling height.

Where It Works Best

At 13.3cm across, the shade is narrow enough to hang as a single drop without dominating the space around it. It suits a spot above a kitchen island or breakfast bar particularly well, whether on its own or repeated in a row, and works equally over a small dining table, a desk, or a reading corner beside a bed.

Can I adjust how low this pendant hangs? Yes. The flex can be trimmed at the point of fitting to set a drop anywhere between 57.2cm and 151.1cm, so it can be set to suit different ceiling heights.

Is a bulb included with the Etoile small pendant? No. It takes one E27 bulb, which isn't supplied, so you can choose the warmth and brightness that suits the room.

Is this pendant dimmable? Yes, as long as it's fitted with a dimmable E27 bulb. A bulb that isn't rated as dimmable won't respond to a dimmer switch.

Is the star finial solid gold? No. It's cast in resin and finished in gold leaf, which keeps the fitting light in weight while still giving the star its distinct metallic finish against the black.
