Elstead Egil 1W Single Wall/Ceiling Lantern - Graphite

A flat square of light for an outside wall

The Egil strips an exterior light back to its simplest form: a shallow square frame in Graphite with a flat, opal panel set across the front. There is no lantern glazing or scrollwork here, just a clean geometric block that spreads an even wash of light rather than a single bright pool.

The cast aluminium body is finished in a matte, dark graphite that reads close to black against most walls. It sits quietly on render, brick or timber cladding rather than drawing attention to itself, which suits it well when several are used together along one elevation.

How it works

One GX53 bulb sits behind the opal diffuser, glowing evenly across the whole face of the fitting rather than from a single visible point. At only 14cm square and 5cm deep, it sits close to the wall and does not project far, so it works in narrow passageways as well as on open exterior walls.

Where it works best

Being compact and plain in style, the Egil suits being repeated: spaced along a garden wall, up a run of exterior steps, or either side of a garage or utility door. Rated IP54, it is built to be mounted outside and left exposed to the weather.

A plainer face than the Egil 2W

The same square Egil housing also comes as the 2W, which uses horizontal slats across the front instead of a plain panel, if you would rather the light was broken up a little.
