The Egil 1W strips exterior lighting back to its simplest shape: a shallow square frame in graphite with a single flat opal panel set across the front. There is no ornament or scrollwork, just a clean geometric block that throws an even wash of light rather than a single bright point.

The cast aluminium body is finished in a matte, dark graphite that reads close to black against most exterior walls. It sits quietly on render, brick or timber cladding rather than drawing attention to itself, which suits it well when several are mounted together along one elevation.

How It Works

One GX53 bulb sits behind the opal diffuser, glowing evenly across the whole face of the fitting rather than from a single visible point. At 14cm square and only 5cm deep, it sits close to the wall and does not project far, so it works as well in a narrow passageway as it does on an open exterior wall. The plain panel front sets it apart from the Egil 2W, which uses the same square housing but with horizontal slats across the face instead.

Where It Works Best

Being compact and plain in style, the Egil 1W suits being repeated: spaced along a garden wall, up a run of exterior steps, or either side of a garage or utility door. Rated IP54, it is built to be mounted outside and left exposed to the weather, so it holds up equally well on an exposed gable end or a sheltered porch.
