The patina applied from the start

This Downing Street lantern wears a verdigris finish, the blue green patina that solid brass develops naturally outdoors over years, given to it here from day one rather than left to form on its own. The domed, vented cap and glazed box keep the same shape as the rest of the range.

Solid brass, aged in tone

Solid brass is finished in verdigris, with glazed panels on all four sides that let the single filament bulb show through from whichever direction you approach it.

How it works

The bulb sits inside the lantern box behind the glass, and an IP44 rating means the fitting is built to be mounted outside and left to weather, which suits a finish already designed to look aged.

Where it works best

Its muted, weathered colouring sits particularly well against stone, render or planting, so it suits a garden wall, a side entrance or anywhere a bright brass finish would feel too formal.

One shape, three finishes

The same lantern is also made in aged brass and polished nickel, so the verdigris finish can go here while the rest of the house keeps a different tone in the same shape.
