The Downing Street lantern follows the classic outline of an exterior wall lantern, a vented dome cap sitting above a glazed brass box that throws light out on every side rather than in one direction. Aged brass keeps the tone warm and slightly muted rather than bright and polished.

Solid brass, glazed on four sides

The body is solid brass finished in aged brass, and clear glass panels on all four sides mean the filament bulb inside is visible from the path, the driveway or the street.

How it works

A single E27 bulb sits inside the lantern behind the glass, and the fitting carries an IP44 rating, so it is built to cope with the exposure of being mounted outside a front door or on a porch.

Where it works best

Either side of a front door, on a porch, or flanking a gate pillar, anywhere the light needs to be seen from a distance as much as it needs to light the step below it.
