A knight's helm reimagined as a lamp
Cast entirely in steel, this piece takes the shape of a great helm resting against a kite shield with a broadsword driven through its stand. It is a genuine oddity in a lighting range, closer to a piece of display armour than a conventional lamp, and it holds its own as a talking point long before it is switched on.
The Burnished Bronze finish
The Burnished Bronze finish is worked unevenly across the steel, so shadow gathers in the rivets and around the visor while the curve of the dome and the raised fleur de lis on the shield pick up a lighter, brassier tone. It reads as aged, hand worked metal rather than a flat painted coat, which suits the medieval styling of the piece.
How It Works
A single 9W LED GX53 bulb sits hidden inside the helm, with light escaping through the narrow visor slits and the grid of small holes beneath them. Rather than lighting a room, it throws thin bars and scattered points of light across whatever is nearby, so it works best as an accent rather than a main source of light. Fit a dimmable GX53 bulb and it will respond to a dimmer switch; the bulb itself is not included.
Where It Works Best
At 70cm tall, the Crusader needs a spot where it can stand on its own, a console table, a bookcase shelf or the corner of a study, rather than somewhere cramped like a bedside table. It suits a traditional or heraldic scheme best, alongside dark wood, leather furniture and anything with a hint of the mock medieval about it.
