Elstead Cleveland Single Small Pillar Lantern - Weathered Bronze

The Cleveland Single Small Pillar Lantern takes the look of an old fashioned lamp post and brings it down to a scale that suits a garden rather than a city square. A curved, six panelled lantern head tops a fluted column, which in turn sits on a broad, six sided base plate with a turned finial crowning the whole thing.

Weathered Bronze finish

The cast aluminium body is finished in Weathered Bronze, a treatment built up from a dark, near black base with warm bronze breaking through on the raised edges and mouldings, so the light itself has plenty of texture even before it is switched on. The lantern panels are glazed in clear seeded glass, which gives off a slightly rippled, handworked look to the glow.

How it works

This is a freestanding post light rather than a wall fitting, bolted down through its base plate to a hard surface so the lantern head sits at a steady height above the ground. It takes a single bulb, and will work with dimmable bulbs if you want more control over how bright it runs.

Where it works best

It earns its place along a front path, drive, or either side of a gate, and a pair either side of an entrance can look particularly good. The traditional shape naturally suits period and country properties, though the dark, muted finish means it will not fight with stone, brick, or render on more recent builds either.
