A compact lantern for a smaller doorway

The Chicago Single Small Wall Lantern takes the same scrolled arm and lantern silhouette as its larger sibling and scales it down for porches, door surrounds and pillars where a full size fitting would look heavy. The curved bracket still carries the lantern well clear of the wall, with a ribbed crown and drop finial repeating the detail of the bigger Chicago lanterns in miniature.

Textured black finish

Cast aluminium finished in a textured black, paired with clear seeded glass that carries the small bubbles and gentle ripple of old fashioned glazing rather than a smooth modern pane. Even scaled down, the fluted crown and scrollwork on the bracket arm keep their definition, so the detail reads clearly up close.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits on a central bracket inside the lantern case, lighting all four seeded glass panels from within. It is a Class I fitting, so it needs an earthed supply, and takes a dimmable bulb if you want to vary the light level from a dimmer switch. The bulb is not included.

Where It Works Best

Suits narrower door surrounds, porch pillars, or any spot where a larger lantern would crowd the space, while keeping the same scrolled arm and silhouette as the rest of the Chicago range. A pair either side of a smaller front door keeps the proportions right, and being IP44 rated, it stands up well to wind and rain in an exposed spot such as a porch or gable end.

Elstead Lighting

Chicago comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the same Lucas family today. This smaller Chicago size sits alongside larger versions of the same design, so a porch and a neighbouring pillar or post can be lit with matching lanterns at different scales.

Is this lantern suitable for an exposed outdoor wall? Yes. It is IP44 rated and built as a Class I fitting, so it is designed for outdoor use on a porch, pillar or door surround, provided it is wired to an earthed supply.
