Rather than reaching up a tall pole, the Chapel Pedestal Lantern sits low and squat. A short fluted column and octagonal base lift the lantern head just enough to catch the eye, without ever looking out of scale on top of a gate pier or garden wall. The peaked roof and single finial mark it out as part of the wider Chapel family from the first glance.

The body is cast in black die cast aluminium with a fine textured finish, and the lamp chamber is glazed with flat panels of clear glass rather than a decorative or frosted pattern. That clarity means the bulb itself stays visible from every angle, so the shape and warmth of whatever lamp you fit becomes part of how the lantern reads once it is switched on after dark.

How It Works

One E27 bulb sits in a single lamp holder at the centre of the lantern head, lighting the whole fixture rather than throwing a directional beam. The bulb is not included, so you can choose between a warm filament style lamp or an LED, and if the bulb you fit is dimmable, the fitting will dim on a compatible switch. Because it sits on a flat surface rather than fixing to a wall, it needs a stable pier, plinth or wall top to stand on rather than a mounting bracket.

Where It Works Best

Its pedestal base makes it the natural choice for the top of a gate pier, a low garden wall, or a stone plinth flanking a driveway or front path, rather than anywhere that calls for a wall fixing. Set two either side of an entrance and the same peaked roof and finial link them visually to the taller Chapel lamp post or the Chapel wall lantern, so a full outdoor scheme can be built from the one range without the styles competing.

Elstead Lighting

The Chapel Pedestal Lantern comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose name traces back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the same Lucas family today. It is a traditional, classically detailed design built for exterior use, sitting within a wider Elstead range of period inspired outdoor lighting.
