A half moon of soft, upward light
Carisbrooke takes a simple half moon shade and dresses it up with a garland of swags and small floret studs running around the rim in black. Frosted glass diffuses the bulb into a gentle glow that washes upward over the wall, and the pattern of the black frame throws its own soft shadow into that glow, so the fitting reads more detailed close up than the plain dome shape suggests from across a room.
Black finish
The frame is a mild steel cage finished in black, with a garland motif and floret studs cast into the metalwork along the top rim. Underneath, the shade itself is a half bowl of frosted glass, held in place by three cross bars finished in the same black as the rest of the frame, so the whole fitting reads as one settled, dark silhouette on the wall rather than a mix of tones.
How it works
A single E27 bulb sits inside the frame, hidden behind the frosted glass so no bare filament or LED is ever visible. Because the shade is open at the top, light is thrown mostly upward, softened by the frosting rather than shining directly outward into the room. Fit a dimmable bulb and Carisbrooke will respond to a dimmer switch, taking the glow from a low backdrop light to something brighter.

Carisbrooke earns its keep wherever you want gentle background light rather than a reading lamp: hallways, landings and bedrooms all suit it well, and it holds its own in a living or dining room used as an accent alongside other lighting. Because it is a single wall mounted piece rather than a spread of arms, it also works well spaced in a run along a hallway or staircase wall, or fitted in a matching pair either side of a doorway or fireplace.
Elstead Lighting
Carisbrooke is part of the Elstead Lighting collection. The company takes its name from The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, where its history began, and the business remains led by the same Lucas family today. The garland and floret detailing on this fitting reflects the more traditional, decorative end of the Elstead range, alongside the brand's plainer contemporary designs.

Is the Carisbrooke wall light dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb will not dim even on a dimmer switch circuit.
Does the light shine outward or upward? Upward. The shade is open at the top, so the bulb throws its light up over the wall and ceiling line, softened by the frosted glass, rather than out into the room.
