A lantern built to stand upright
Where most Canterbury lanterns hang down from their fixing, this one sits level, held upright on a curved black bracket with a small finial pointing skyward from its roof. The effect is more formal and architectural than a hanging lantern, closer in spirit to a traditional gate lamp than a swinging porch light.
Black finish with paned glass
The tapered lantern box is cast in aluminium and finished in black, glazed on all four sides with textured glass divided into a four pane grid by thin black bars. The texture in the glass breaks up the bulb's light, so it reads as a soft, even glow rather than a hard, single point of brightness.
How It Works
A single E27 lamp sits inside the lantern, with light spilling out through all four glazed sides. The bulb is not included, so fit an E27 LED before use, and choose a dimmable one if you'd like it to work with a dimmer switch, checking your switch is compatible first.
Where It Works Best
It carries an IP43 rating, giving it protection against splashing water, which suits a porch, covered doorway or other sheltered outdoor spot. Because it sits upright rather than dropping down, it's particularly effective mounted as a level, symmetrical pair either side of a front door or garage, or spaced along a driveway or garden wall where a run of matching lanterns suits the look of the house.

Canterbury comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose name traces back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the Lucas family today.
