Light Held at an Angle
The Balance wall light swings a slender arm out and up from a round backplate, holding its drum shade off to one side rather than flush against the wall. It reads more like a held lantern than a fixed bracket, casting a soft pool of light close to where it is mounted.
Black and Polished Nickel
The arm and circular backplate are finished in matte black, with polished nickel detailing at the joint and lamp fitting for a sharp contrast against the black steel. The drum shade is made up in white polycotton fabric with a mirrored lining, so the fabric softens the light on the outside while the reflective interior bounces it back out through the open base of the shade.
How It Works
Because the shade opens at the bottom rather than the top, light spills downward and pools close to the wall instead of washing upward across the ceiling. It takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is not included, and an acrylic diffuser lines the inside of the shade to help even out the glow. Fit a dimmable bulb and the light responds to a standard dimmer switch.
Where It Works Best
Its reach means it can sit further out from the wall than a flush fitting would, which suits either side of a bed where you want light closer to eye level, spaced at intervals along a hallway, or flanking a mirror in a bedroom or dining room. It also works well as a single fitting in a living room where you want a pool of light rather than a full room wash.
