A cage of light at its centre

Three scrolled arms sweep out from a slender, elongated cage of curved brass strips at the heart of this chandelier, a shape built to catch the light rather than screen it behind a shade. Below the cage a twisted knot finial finishes the piece, echoing the same hand formed curves that run through the whole Artisan range.

Aged brass

The brass finish here has been toned down rather than polished to a mirror shine, leaving a warm, slightly weathered colour that reads as lived in rather than showroom new. It sits comfortably in a period property with existing brass fittings, and softens the look in a newer build where a brighter polished metal might feel too sharp.

How It Works

Three E14 candle style holders sit open around the cage, so the bulbs themselves are part of the display rather than hidden away. The fitting hangs on an adjustable chain, and links can be removed to set the drop anywhere between 50cm and 94cm to suit your ceiling height, or the chain can be shortened further so the fitting sits close to the ceiling as a semi flush light rather than hanging low on a long run.

Where It Works Best

At 36cm across, Artisan reads as a dining table or landing fitting first, and a bedroom centrepiece second, rather than the largest light in a full height living room, though it will happily take on that job in a smaller or more intimate space. Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways are all good fits for its scale.

Elstead Lighting

Artisan comes from Elstead Lighting, a British decorative lighting group and distributor whose heritage traces back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the same Lucas family today. The scrolled arms and twisted finial on this piece draw on that same decorative, traditional metalwork style the brand has built its name on.

Questions People Ask

What bulbs does the Artisan chandelier take? It takes three E14 candle style bulbs, and we recommend LED versions for lower running heat and a longer life. Bulbs are not included.

Is the Artisan chandelier dimmable? Yes, provided you fit dimmable E14 bulbs and pair the fitting with a compatible dimmer switch. Standard non dimmable bulbs will not dim even on a dimmer circuit.

Can I hang it closer to the ceiling? Yes. The chain is adjustable, so you can shorten it to bring the fitting close to the ceiling in a semi flush style, or leave more chain in for a lower hanging pendant, anywhere between 50cm and 94cm of drop.

Will the aged brass finish match my other brass fittings? Aged brass is a toned down, slightly antiqued finish rather than a bright polish, so it tends to sit well alongside existing brass door and cabinet hardware, and other aged or antique brass lighting in the same room.
