A slim black bar that lights the picture, not the wall
The Alton picture light trades the traditional swan neck brass fitting for something leaner: a slender tube finished in matte black, carried on a curved arm that keeps the light source close to the frame it is meant to flatter. It reads as understated on the wall until it is switched on, at which point the whole point of it becomes obvious.
Matte black, no shine to catch the eye
The finish is a flat, non reflective black across the backplate, arm and light bar, so it disappears against dark walls and holds its own as a graphic line against pale ones. Mild steel construction keeps the profile slim without the arm feeling flimsy when angled.
How It Works
A single integrated LED bar runs along the underside of the tube, throwing a broad, even wash of warm white light downward onto whatever hangs beneath it. The arm hinges out from the wall and the head itself tilts, so the light can be aimed properly rather than just aimed generally. It wires directly into the wall rather than plugging in, so we always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.
Where It Works Best
Built for artwork and framed photography, though it works just as well over an open shelf, a run of book spines, or a mirror that could do with some flattering light. The large size in this listing suits wider frames and canvases where a shorter bar would leave the edges in shadow, and it reads equally well over a living room fireplace, a dining room feature wall, a hallway gallery run, or a home office lined with prints and awards.

Elstead is a British decorative lighting group and distributor whose history traces back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and the company remains led by the same Lucas family today. Is the Alton picture light dimmable? No. The integrated LED bar runs at a fixed output and is not compatible with a dimmer switch.
Can the bulb be replaced? No. The LED is built into the bar itself rather than fitted as a separate lamp, so there is no bulb to swap out.
Do I need an electrician to install this light? Yes. Alton wires directly into the wall rather than plugging in, so we always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.
What size artwork does the large Alton suit? This large version is 67.4cm wide, which suits wider frames and canvases. A smaller size is also available in the same range for narrower artwork.
