A Linear Light Built to Cut Glare, Not Add to It

The Collingwood Versa Tile is a slim architectural linear light designed for commercial ceilings where screens, close reading and long shifts make glare control genuinely important. At just 38mm deep it sits close to the ceiling plane, and Collingwood has engineered it to a UGR19 rating, the benchmark figure for low glare lighting in offices and similar working spaces. Running at 45W, it puts out 4500 lumens at 4000K, working out to close to 100 lumens per watt, and splits its output 75% downward and 25% upward so a run of fittings can light a room evenly without extra uplighters.

This Black Finish

This version comes in black, RAL9005, which reads as a shadow line on the ceiling rather than a visible fitting once it is installed. Built from an aluminium housing with a polystyrene diffuser, the dark finish suits exposed ceilings, dark grid systems and any interior where a bright white batten light would stand out too much. It pairs naturally with black track, black service runs and the kind of stripped back commercial fit out that wants its light sources to disappear into the ceiling rather than sit on top of it.

How It Works

Versa Tile runs on a built in driver, so there is no separate control gear to find space for above the ceiling. It is available in eight configurations, covering non dimming or dimming drivers (DALI-2 or push dim, when specified), a standard version, an emergency version with self test and an IK02 impact rating, a version with a built in PIR sensor, and a combined emergency and PIR version. Each fitting is supplied with a suspension kit, so it can hang on its own, or a single 1500mm unit can be linked end to end with the separate VTBCON connector to build a continuous line of light with no visible break. Even when surface mounted flush to the ceiling, it still throws over 10% of its output upward, softening the ceiling plane instead of leaving it dark.

Where It Works Best

This is a fitting for working spaces rather than living rooms: open plan offices, meeting rooms, reception areas, corridors, classrooms and retail counters, anywhere a continuous, low glare line of light does more good than a row of individual downlights. The PIR variants suit corridors, stairwells and rooms that are used on and off through the day, since the light only needs to be on when someone is actually there. The emergency versions are worth specifying anywhere that needs backup lighting on an escape route.
