A Sensor That Knows When to Switch On
This microwave sensor gives Collingwood's Area Bay luminaires the ability to think for themselves. It combines motion detection with a daylight threshold, so the light only comes on when someone is actually in the space and there isn't already enough natural light to see by. In a busy warehouse aisle or a quiet corner of a distribution unit, that means lights that work when they're needed and stay off when they're not.
Built for the Job
The sensor has a black finish and a ridged twist top, designed to be turned by hand for quick calibration or removal without tools. It's a small, self contained unit weighing just 0.1kg, sealed to IP65 so dust and the odd splash in a working warehouse won't affect it.
How It Works
The sensor plugs directly into the Zhaga socket built into the centre of the Area Bay fitting. There's no extra wiring to run and no separate control gear to fit, so installation is quick. Once it's in place, it uses microwave detection to read movement in the space and checks the ambient light level before deciding whether to switch the luminaire on. It's compatible with both 0 to 10V and PWM dimming, so it can work alongside a range of existing lighting control setups.
Where It Works Best
This sensor is built for the high bay environments the Area Bay range serves, warehouses, distribution centres, and similar industrial spaces where lights are often left running in areas nobody is using. Fitting one to each luminaire means light only appears where and when it's actually needed, which can make a real difference to running costs across a large site. Because it's a simple plug in accessory, it also suits retrofitting onto Area Bay fittings that are already installed and in service.
