Emergency Backup for H2 and H4 Pro Downlights
The LEDEP11 converts a compatible Collingwood H2 or H4 Pro downlight for emergency use, so if the mains supply fails, the fitting switches to a dimmed emergency output instead of going dark. It works through the downlight's own wiring rather than as a separate emergency unit sitting nearby on the ceiling.
The Self Test Version
This is the self test version, so it checks its own battery and circuit periodically without anyone needing to test it by hand. A status LED on the pack shows green when everything has passed and red if there's a fault, so an installer or facilities manager can see the state of the unit at a glance during a routine walk round.
How It Works
- Connects using push-fit terminals and DC plug and play connectors, so it drops into an H2 Pro or H4 Pro downlight's existing wiring rather than needing extra cable runs.
- Runs as a non maintained converter, staying off during normal use and switching to emergency output during a mains failure or test cycle.
- Rated to keep the downlight running for at least three hours once it's triggered.
- Self test function checks the battery and circuit automatically, with the status LED showing green for a pass and red for a fault.
- Measures 200mm long, 55mm wide and 25mm deep, and weighs 0.3kg.
- Needs an 18mm cut out for the status LED and a 7mm cut out for the test button, fitted through the ceiling alongside the downlight.
Where It Works Best
This converter suits any project specifying Collingwood's H2 Pro or H4 Pro downlights where regulations call for emergency lighting, such as offices, stairwells, corridors and commercial fit outs. Because it's rated IP20, it belongs in dry indoor locations rather than bathrooms or outdoor fittings. It also wires directly into the downlight itself, so it's best planned in alongside the H2 Pro or H4 Pro from the start of a job rather than added once the ceiling is finished.
Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. A component like this converter is built to work quietly alongside a downlight rather than draw attention to itself, in keeping with a brand that states it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Comes with a 5 year warranty from Collingwood.
- Rated IP20, so it's for dry indoor installations only, not bathrooms or outdoor use.
- Built from polycarbonate, with Class II electrical construction.
- Only compatible with Collingwood's H2 Pro and H4 Pro downlights, so check compatibility before ordering.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation and commissioning by a registered NICEIC electrician, since this is part of an emergency lighting circuit.
Questions People Ask
Which downlights does this converter fit?
It's built for Collingwood's H2 Pro and H4 Pro downlights, so check your fitting matches one of these before ordering.
How will I know if it's working?
A status LED on the pack shows green when the unit has passed its self test and red if there's a fault, so you can check it at a glance without test equipment.
Do I need to test it by hand?
No. It has a self test function that checks its own battery and circuit periodically, though it's still worth keeping a record as part of your site's emergency lighting checks.
How long does the emergency light stay on?
It's rated to keep the downlight running for at least three hours once the mains supply fails or during a test cycle.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
No. It's rated IP20, which means it's designed for dry indoor locations rather than bathrooms or damp rooms.
