Three Circuits in Brushed Steel

A triple dimmer has to earn a wider footprint on the wall, and this one does it with a plate machined from solid stainless steel rather than stamped from anything thinner. Three knurled dimmer knobs run in a row, each independently controlling its own lighting circuit.

Choose Your Finish

The plate is steel across the board, so what changes is the detail kit, the three knobs and coin screws underneath. Steel keeps the whole plate reading as one continuous piece of metal, while Brass picks the knobs out as a warmer, contrasting detail.

How It Works

Three separate rotary dimmer modules sit behind the plate, each a push on/off, turn to dim mechanism wired two way at 10AX. Every module runs on standard UK 230 to 240V wiring at 50Hz and dims LED bulbs from 5 to 120W, or incandescent and halogen from 60 to 400W, with electronic soft start easing each circuit up from off.

Where It Works Best

A 3G plate is the right size for a room with three distinct lighting circuits on one wall, a living room with ceiling spots, wall lights and a lamp circuit, for example. Two circuits only need the 2G plate; a fourth circuit, say a run of shelf lighting added later, is the point to step up to the 4G plate instead.

Massimo Buster Minale spent his days working as an architect, at firms including Foster and Partners, and his evenings customising motorbikes in a Shoreditch garage, machining parts himself because nothing off the shelf was good enough.
