A 2G Back Box for Plasterboard Walls
This 2G back box is the concealed double gang housing behind a pair of Buster + Punch UK switches, dimmers or sockets. It's built in durable plastic and sized for plasterboard and stud wall construction, giving enough width and depth to mount two modules side by side once the wall is closed up.
How It Fits Into the System
Set into the stud wall before the plasterboard goes on, this back box keeps the wiring and terminal connections hidden, with the decorative twin plate and its two modules fixing to the front of it. Because it spans two gangs, check the box lines up with both module positions on the plate before you commit to the cutout. Installation should always be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
Ideal anywhere you're grouping two switches, dimmers or sockets together on a plasterboard or stud wall, a hallway with a light switch and a dimmer, say, or a kitchen run with two sockets. For the same layout on a solid wall, plaster, brick or masonry, Buster + Punch supplies a separate metal back box, so confirm your wall type first.

It's easy to overlook a back box, since no one ever sees it once the wall is closed up, but it still carries the Buster + Punch name for a reason. Founder Massimo Buster Minale trained as an architect at practices including Foster + Partners and Richard Rogers before spending his evenings machining motorbike parts by hand in a Shoreditch garage, and founded the company in 2013 on that same standard, hidden components included.

Is this the visible switch plate?
No. The back box sits inside the wall and is hidden once installed. The decorative plate and its two switch or dimmer modules fix to the front of it separately.
Can I use this for two different types of module, like a switch and a dimmer?
Yes. A 2G back box supports two independent modules in the same plate, so you can mix functions such as a toggle switch and a dimmer in one twin gang position.
Do I need an electrician to fit this?
Yes. Fitting a back box means working with your wall's electrical wiring, so it should always be handled by a qualified electrician alongside the switch or socket installation.
