This 1G intermediate toggle switch pairs a smoked bronze back plate with Buster + Punch's diamond-cut cross knurl on the toggle itself. The smoked bronze finish is deliberately darker and more mottled than a plain black, closer to aged metal than a flat paint colour, and it's built for the specific job of switching a circuit from a middle position.

The smoked bronze plate stays fixed here. The toggle and collar can be finished to match in Smoked Bronze for a single tonal block, or lifted with Brass for warmth or Steel for a cooler contrast against the darker plate.

How It Works

A single toggle module sits behind the plate, wired as intermediate, or 3-way, and rated at 10A. This type of switch is used in the middle of a run, between two-way switches, so the same light can be controlled from three or more positions. As with all hardwired Buster + Punch electrics, installation should always be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Well suited to darker, more atmospheric rooms where a plain black switch would feel flat under lamplight, a study, a snug, or a landing lit mostly by a single pendant. Smoking and ageing metal by hand long predates switch plates, and the mottled, uneven quality of this smoked bronze finish is a deliberate echo of that older craft, no two plates reading quite the same under changing light. Massimo Buster Minale worked as an architect at practices including Foster + Partners before turning his evenings over to building custom motorbikes by hand in a Shoreditch garage, and founded Buster + Punch on that same hands-on approach in 2013.

Not exactly. The smoked finish is applied to give a mottled, aged effect, so there is natural variation from plate to plate. This is intentional and part of the finish rather than a fault.
