2019 Interior Lighting Trends: What’s in the Spotlight?

2018 was the year of cylindrical pendants, futuristic domes and paper lanterns. It was also the year we waved goodbye to halogen bulbs and discovered that LED lighting really is the future. But what’s next? What does 2019 hold in store for new lighting trends?

As you might expect, we’ve always got our finger on the pulse of lighting design trends. With this in mind, we’ve picked out the top three best 2019 lighting trends that you’re going to see a great deal of as we head further into the New Year.

Linear Landscape-Oriented Lighting

A refreshing change from the traditional vertical drop pendant style, landscape-oriented lighting is a trend already gaining traction for 2019. These stunning linear styles extend horizontally across the ceiling and often span the width of the room for a real statement style that doesn’t intrude on space. We’ve been spotting a great deal of clean-lined designs with contemporary, brushed metals and exposed bulbs, with many designs sitting semi-flush to the ceiling and even designed to be adjustable for a truly bespoke finish.

A slight variation on this trend that’s set to be just as popular is the landscape-oriented pendant style. This combines the ever popular pendant and island lighting trends of previous years with 2019’s upcoming linear landscape looks, spanning extensive widths for a super statement. Look out for simple shapes with opulent glass detailing to nail this trend combo.

Marble Bases

Marble has seen a strong resurgence in interior design throughout 2018, and this trend is set to continue with a host of stunning marble-based lighting designs in 2019. Lighting designer Christina Henck, from Casaza home design, notes this trend’s origins in the upsurge in popularity of floor arc lamps with their heavy marble bases.

This necessary functional feature has now become an aesthetic design sensation, and 2019 will be filled with beautiful marble-based table lamps in a range of white, black and coloured marbles. Keep an eye out for designs that combine the cool, smooth texture of marble with the warm glow of copper and other metals.

Solid Brass

If 2018 was the year of copper (and, boy, it really was), 2019 is set to be the year of beautiful brass. Gold tones and solid, real brass in particular is one of the top 2019 lighting trends that is really taking off, and we can’t help but love it. Interior designer Janet Lorusso of JRL Interiors has noted a shift back towards traditional interior styles, which in turn has led to a return to accents made with real, solid brass as opposed to the fake, lacquered brass effects.

We love this new ‘living finish’ direction, with the promise that unlacquered brass will age beautifully with time and develop its own unique patina. Lighting is the perfect means with which to introduce the solid brass trend to your home, particularly if you’re aiming for a vintage aesthetic. Keep a keen eye out for classically-designed solid brass table lamps for an opulent, traditional effect, and don’t be afraid to introduce a touch of extra opulence with a traditional brass candle chandelier ceiling light.

Which of these promising 2019 lighting trends will you be inviting into your home this year? Whether you’re going down the traditional brass route, trying a more contemporary landscape lighting look or opting for something else entirely, we’ve got a huge range of trendsetting lighting designs in our new lighting collections here at Moonlight Design.
